Volunteering at Seattle Children's Theatre can be fun, rewarding, and educational. By volunteering with us, you will have the opportunity to see our plays, experience behind-the-scene tours and observe (& maybe participate in) drama workshops. We look forward to having you join the SCT family as a member of the SCT Supporters!
To sign up to join the SCT Supporters contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Tammy Hase.
Who may Volunteer?
Depending on the position, we take volunteers starting at age 8, as long as accompanied by an adult. See below for specific age requirements.
Your time and positive energy. For Ushering – We encourage you to usher at least once per show, but we require that you volunteer a minimum of 12 hours (4 shows) during the season.
For Classroom Assistants – 1 hour per week for 10 weeks.
Each new SCT Supporter must participate in a training workshop prior to beginning their volunteer work. Most training can be scheduled approximately 30 minutes before the start of your first shift.
Open to volunteers 8 - 13 years of age who are accompanied by a parent or guardian OR 14 years of age or older on their own. Usher duties include any of the following: stuffing and passing out programs, light cleaning of the theatre, ticket taking, stage watching, assisting at concession stands, and answering patrons’ questions. Each shift is approximately 3 hours.
Open to volunteers 15 years of age or older who have some theatre experience, assistants help the teacher engage the students in dramatic exercises and storytelling. Classes typically meet for one hour, once-a-week, for ten weeks.
Many projects in our marketing and development departments require very little time commitment and are flexible in nature. Typically, Administrative Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and are needed during the work week. Projects subject to availability and skill set.
Special Events and Outreach
Special Events Volunteers assist with fund raising events and functions for our donors. They often get the chance to attend the function they are helping with, such as a drama workshop or a backstage tour. Scheduling for these events is on an as-needed basis. Age limit depends on the age limit of the event.
Outreach Volunteers represent SCT at fairs and conferences in the community. They help to set up booths, distribute brochures, lead activities, and answer questions about Seattle Children's Theatre. They often receive the benefit of attending the event they are working, such as an Outdoor Movie Night or a Discover Music concert at the Seattle Symphony. Scheduling for these events happens on an as-needed basis. Age limit determined per event.
