Where Your Gift Goes
At Seattle Children's Theatre, we pride ourselves on having a variety of programs that appeal to Seattle's diverse community of young people. Your donation or sponsorship helps us fund the following programs:
School Children Access Program
To build an audience that is a true cross-section of our community, Seattle Children's Theatre provides a discount to all students and teachers attending our school matinee performances. SCT provides subsidized and free scholarship tickets for teachers and students to benefit from the kind of enriching arts experience that is all too commonly being cut from our public schools. To do that we will take on our single largest expense of over $900,000 in the form of free and subsidized tickets for over 50,000 students and teachers.
At Seattle Children's Theatre, arts exposure, education and creating access are all integral components of our mission. Arts education builds self-confidence, encourages creativity and innovation, and teaches the importance of collaboration: all valuable traits which nurture our next generation. Young people are our primary audience, and we have designed our arts education programs specifically for them. Our Drama School offers year-round classes that range from Story Drama for four-year-olds to the Young Actor Institute, the most respected teen actor training program in the region. Seattle Children's Theatre's Education Outreach Programs also provide on-site drama workshops, residencies, and teacher training for schools and community groups throughout western Washington.
New Play Development
Each season, Seattle Children's Theatre produces two or more scripts that are written especially for our young patrons. Since 1975, we have developed and produced over 100 such scripts, many of which have subsequently been produced by theatres across the country.
