FAQ

Where is Seattle Children's Theatre?

The theatre is located at the west entrance to Seattle Center in the lower Queen Anne neighborhood. SCT is north of the Pacific Science Center and west of the Space Needle, on the corner of 2nd Avenue N and Thomas St.

What about public transportation to SCT or parking once we arrive by car?

Visit the Seattle Center web site for detailed Metro (bus) information, parking details and driving directions.

How are the age recommendations for each play determined?

Age recommendations for each play are based on the text of the play and whether it contains abstract themes, a good deal of dialogue, or runs over an hour and a half in length. Our age recommendations are general; parents make the final decision as to when their child is old enough to enjoy SCT performances.

May I bring my infant to a play?

Most of our shows are recommended for children ages 4 and older, but infants are welcome. For your convenience, the Charlotte Martin and Eve Alvord Theatres have quiet rooms, should your child become restless or noisy. Please note that the Eve Alvord quiet room is not completely sound proof.

Is there an intermission during the plays?

Yes. Most of our shows have a 10 to 15 minute intermission.

When should we arrive?

For public shows, the lobby doors open one hour prior to show time; the theatre opens 30 minutes prior to show time for subscribers and fifteen minutes prior to show time for single ticket buyers. For school shows, the lobby doors open 30 minutes prior to show time. Please plan to arrive early on nights that may be busy at Seattle Center.

Are there any restaurants near SCT?

Yes. There are a number of restaurants located in the Center House at Seattle Center, and in the neighboring areas of Queen Anne. In addition, the theatre has a concession stand with cookies, juice and other refreshments available for purchase before the show and during intermission.

When is your gift shop open?

Our Stage Door Store is open before, during, and after performances at the Charlotte Martin and Eve Alvord Theatres. The store carries books and educational toys related to SCT productions. There are also puppets, hats, dramatic play toys, and an extensive selection of $1 toys. Gift cards can be purchased in store. For questions and special requests call the Gift Shop Manager at (206) 443-0807 ext. 1205.

Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?

Both theatres at SCT meet all the codes of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and are fully accessible to patrons in wheelchairs. Select performances are American Sign Language interpreted and assistive listening devices may be checked out through the House Manager before performances in the Charlotte Martin Theatre. Incoming calls to the Ticket Office can be translated via a TTY system. Call our Ticket Office for more information. (206) 441-3322.

Do you offer a military discout?

Seattle Children's Theatre has a long-standing commitment to military personnel in our community and we welcome you to our theatre. Blue Star Theatres is a program of Blue Star Families and Theatre Communications Group, with support from the MetLife Foundation.

Drama School

Do I have to pay now? Can I set up a payment plan?

All classes require a non-refundable $25 deposit, $50 for full-day classes, camps and CAST, and $100 for Performance Programs. Payment plans are available to anyone who prefers to split up their balance into two or three installments. No application is required; simply call the Drama School (206.443.0807 x 1186) to make arrangements.

Need-based scholarships are available to families who would not otherwise be able to participate in our classes. An application is required; our criteria are based on the guidelines established by the Seattle Public Schools' free and reduced-price lunch program. Click here for information on financial aid deadlines and to download a financial aid application.

Will there be a performance at the end of the class?

The final class of each session has 30-45 minutes set aside at the end for friends and family to observe what the students have learned. This is not a performance, but rather an opportunity to get a better sense of what the students experienced throughout the session.

What happens if I want to cancel the class?

  • If you cancel your registration after it has been processed, but at least two weeks before the class begins, we will refund tuition, less a $25 registration fee per class; a $50 fee for full-day classes, camps and CAST; and a $100 fee for Performance Programs.
  • If you cancel your registration less than two weeks before the class starts, no refund will be given. Any tuition paid for the cancelled class, minus the registration fee, becomes a credit, which you may use towards either Drama School tuition or tickets for the Mainstage shows through the end of the current season.
  • SCT reserves the right to cancel a class if enrollment is insufficient. Any tuition paid will be refunded in full, including the registration fee.
  • No refund or make-up classes will be provided for classes cancelled due to inclement weather.
  • SCT Drama School classes will be cancelled on days that Seattle Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions.

We want all students to be satisfied with their experience at the Drama School. If, after completing the first day of class, you decide that you do not want to continue, let us know before the second class or the second business day, whichever comes first, and we will refund your payment (minus the $25 or $50 registration fee). After the second day of class, no tuition or enrollment adjustments will be made. This policy does not apply to YAI or Summer Season shows.

My student has done a lot of theatre with school and other programs, but this is our first SCT class. Can I register them for upper level classes?

Most upper level classes have the pre-requisite of at least one Level One Acting class. If there is room in the class you want, you may bypass the pre-requisite and set up a placement audition with the Drama School. For more student audition information, please click here.
