A Letter from Our Managing Director
SCT Community,
There has been much news about the struggles of theatres in our region. We know Seattle is changing and evolving, and necessarily our arts organizations are as well. While SCT is not immune to the challenges, we are excited to be coming off a successful year and planning big things for our 50th Anniversary Season.
This past year we served 100,000 people through the shows on our stages and theatre education. Our earned revenue from ticket sales increased 44% above the previous season, beating our budgeted goals. Even as we increased our ticket revenue, we also increased access, providing over 26,000 discounted and free tickets. And while our donations continue to lag behind our budgeted goals, SCT has been successful at stewarding our resources well and we’re ending this year on solid financial footing.
We are looking ahead with confidence. Here’s a few of the things we are looking forward to:
- This summer we are renovating our lobby and theatre spaces, providing more access, and freshening up our spaces in advance of our 50th Anniversary Season. More on this soon.
- On September 26th, our 50th Anniversary Season will open with Cat Kid Comic Club: The Musical, and we couldn't be more excited to bring another Dav Pilkey story to Seattle audiences!
- We're launching a new partnership with Seattle Repertory Theatre to share resources on some back of house functionalities and partner on a new, combined Box Office to better serve staff and patrons. See the attached press release.
There’s no doubt about it. Our industry is changing and evolving, and SCT is as well. As we look toward our 50th Anniversary Season we are going to keep telling great stories: stories that entertain, inspire and ignite the imagination! We hope you’ll join us in the coming Season as we celebrate all the Good Humans who learn, grow, work, volunteer and donate here at SCT. People like you!
